Why Meghan Markle Is The Queen Of Understated Chic

Why Meghan Markle Is The Queen Of Understated Chic

Since the day of her engagement to Prince Harry was announced, actress Meghan Markle has proven herself to be a master of the art of understated chic. From a white trench to a double-breasted army-style overcoat, Markle has made neutrals her signature, looking efficiently chic in everything from warm toffee shades to restrained black.

Unlike Kate Middleton, who has embraced print via Orla Kiely coat dresses and Erdem gowns, Meghan has so far kept her look simple and anchored by neutral shades, all of which work beautifully with her warm skin tone and dark hair.

On Christmas Day, Meghan, however, chose a stunning overcoat in a bleached shade of sand by Canadian luxury brand Sentaler, which she paired with a tan Philip Treacy hat, Chloe bag and brown suede Stuart Weitzman boots. The look was effortless and understated. Meghan neither looked like she was trying to steal the limelight from Kate or as if she wasn’t comfortable in her own skin and with her own style choices. She appeared confident and elegant.

Meghan also understands how to mix high and low fashion. On an official visit to Nottingham in December, she wore a Mackage military-inspired coat (another Canadian brand) with a Joseph skirt, a Wolford polo-neck and a Strathberry handbag, which sold out within seven minutes apparently. It appears Meghan will have as profound an impact on the success of the brands she wears as Kate Middleton has had over the past several years. I’m excited to see what Meghan wears next…
