Yesterday saw Twitter release its data for 2015 and no one was surpised?at the fact One Direction comprised five of the top ten tweets of the year. In fact, Harry had the most retweeted status of the year, over 700,000 retweets, adding fuel to the rumour fire that his mane is the second coming of Samson. A digital Jesus.
The tweet in question was one typed in the aftermath of Zayn’s high-profile departure from the boyband. Harry wrote, “All the love as always. H” Cue hundreds of teenagers fainting.

However, while Harry and company have #influencer power when it comes to relentless social media shares, It is women who conquer when it comes to actual followers.?Katy Perry ranks number one with 78.3 million and counting followers. Justin Bieber is in second place with 70.5 million. His new album is also what we’d call a banger. In third place, we have Taylor Swift with 66.7 million followers. Which is more than President Barack Obama’s 66.5 million.
However, considering Katy and Taylor have been joint parties to a very public feud, we can imagine a lot of gloating in one corner and some beady stares in another. We wonder if Taylor’s plans to 2016 include a Twitter strategy? After all, she was a machine at Instagram this year.
Her Twitter game? A bit awkward to be honest. Remember that whole Nicki Minaj incident? And the time her boyfriend Calvin Harris waded in for a fight with Zayn Malik. She may need to take some Twitter etiquette lessons to be honest. And to employ her cats more. Embrace embedded Vines, Taylor, and the key to the?kingdom of heaven is within your grasp.
Rihanna ranked in fifth place, but we imagine Rihanna doesn’t really care that much. She’s Rihanna, she doesn’t have a surname. She does, however, have an excellent?Snapchat game.
