The Hunter – Cumberbatch Nuptials

sophie hunter and benedict cumberbatch on red carpet

Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are married! Speculation raged all weekend as to the official status of the couple’s relationship, with the 38-year-old actor’s spokeswoman confirming the couple wed on Valentine’s Day.

The couple married on the Isle of Wight in a 12th century church, the Telegraph reports. The ceremony was private and the guest list was small, with stars such as Sherlock‘s Martin Freeman and Tom Hiddleston attending. They left the church by Jaguar to join guests at the reception.

The couple annouced their engagement in an eight-line notice in the Times newspaper in November. The two actors had been dating for some months, and met in 2009 on the set of Burlesque Fairytales. Their relationship has been one of low-key public appearances at Wimbledon sending tabloids and Cumberbatch’s fans into a social media frenzy. Weeks later it was announced that director and actress Hunter was expecting the couple’s first child.

The two are expected to make their red-carpet debut as a married couple at this Sunday’s Oscars. Cumbertach is nominated for his first Academy Award for his performance in The Imitation Game. He joins a list of celebrity presenters that include the likes of fellow nominees Matthew McConaaughey, Jennifer Lopez, Dakota Johnson, Channing Tatum and more.
