We found the perfect May days rambling spot in County Wicklow’s famous stately home.
This weekend we’re anticipating that supposed heat wave the brains of MET Eireann have predicted, despite evidence to the contrary *looks skywards, sees grey* . Nonetheless, we cannot think of a more appropriate way to while away a May weekend than a stroll through the grounds of the stately Palladian place that is Russborough House in County Wicklow.
May means rhododendrons in Russborough parlance and the stunning flower only blooms throughout this month in the surrounding parkland. The back of the house explodes in colourful blooms every year and visitors are welcome to explore the renowned grounds. When you’re done there, make your way towards the estate’s Japanese bridge for a gander at Lady’s Island where rhododendrons are also reigning. When you’ve got your eyeful, retire to the Tea Rooms for some hearty homemade soup and comforting scones. There are tours of the gardens every Sunday at 2pm throughout May, so make sure you take advantage of nature before the month is out.
