Prep for winter like an interiors pro with these simple accessories

Prep for winter like an interiors pro with these simple accessories

Bid farewell to warm seasons past, and welcome autumn/winter into your home with some cosy additions.

With the beginning of any new season, a wardrobe cleanse or revamp is often on the cards as we box up those bikinis (sob!) and break out that snug teddy coat that’s been hiding away.

In interiors, some of the same habits apply, as we swap out relaxed summer linens for richer, heavier fabrics that signal the season’s change.

Whether you’re a homeowner, renting or a proud tenant of any miniscule space – the following accessories will give your interiors a winter refresh.

Seasonal scents

In the same way that plants add light and air to a space, candles in general give a cosy warm feeling to a room.

With musty scents of the Irish coast, Rathbornes Dublin Dusk is almost cathartic in its scent. Picture yourself with your feet up, kettle boiling and fire ablaze, unwinding and relaxing with notes of aged cedar, as well as dark spicy tones of pepper and ginger.

Moody blooms

Plants and flowers will forever be on our list of interiors essentials. Make it wintry with dried flowers, like this bouquet from Anthropologie, try your local florist for something similar, or even pick your own for drying and arranging.

Dried Green Bouquet, around €35, Anthropologie

Deco lighting

An art form in itself, smart lighting is a must for dark, dull days and a decorative piece can really give your home a glamorous, inviting feel.

Cosy cushions

You don’t need to break the bank to give your space a seasonal makeover. Layering is a simple and cost-effective way to give your home a seasonal one-two. Layer your original furniture with cosy soft furnishings like cushions and throws. Think texture, texture and more texture.

Off White Rope Cushion Cover, €43.49, Trouva

Opulence, a theme

From suede to sheepskins to velvet, plump for fabrics that scream soft and cosy. We adore these supple sheepskin throws from Celtic & Co.

Sheepskin Throw, from €?550.00, Celtic & Co.

Textured Tableware

We are loving this scape bowl from Fern living made from Bidarsar brown marble. It’s smooth yet textured, natural and beautiful.

Chunky rug

Essential for those damp evenings when the floor is as good as anywhere to sprawl out and relax. This season, beige is back, and minimal, textured pieces like this one designed by Claire-Anne O’Brien for Ceadogán will work all year round.

So, whether you’re one of those people who’s already counting down the days until Christmas, or someone who’s already planning your next sun holiday, an interiors revamp is a great way to ready yourself for the cold months ahead.
