You Need To Check Out 50/50 Day

Does International Women’s Day feel like a million years ago?

We can’t escape the news of women fighting for equality, the hurdles facing even our small country, in a downwards spiralling political climate affecting what feels like every aspect?of our lives; from enormous social issues like reproductive rights, calls for the separation of church and medicine and equal pay, right down to the ridiculous difference of numbers of male and female headliners at our music festivals.

To continue the global dialogue on the work that still needs to be done in the ongoing battle for women’s rights, Tiffany Shlain, Refinery29 and an enormous list of sponsors from Intel to British Airways have collaborated to keep the revolution going and make today,?May 10th, 2017, the first annual 50/50 Day.

There are 11,000 events happening today in 65 countries and in all 50 states in the US. ?There’s a video billboard in Times Square. There is a truly incredible 24-hour panel of?speakers and participants??who’ll discuss strategies for achieving greater gender equality in fields ranging from business and politics to the Arts.

There are over 30 speakers you can hear from online, including the female former presidents of Iceland and Malawi, Rosie?Rios, Former?Treasurer of the United States, Dom Brassey, VP of Lesbians Who Tech, activist and comedian Margaret Cho, St?phanie Leblanc, Pricewaterhouse Coopers partner, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, activist Dolores Huerta, and actor and activist Eva Longoria.?Eva Longoria wrote an op-ed for 50/50 Day which will be posted on Refinery29 today.

Tiffany Shlain is the director of the documentary?“50/50,”?an examination of women trailblazers that history ignores and how the past can help us imagine a more equal society.

You can stream everything at?50-50day.org?or watch and ask questions through?Facebook Live.?You can also send?questions for the speakers in advance.
