Modern Love: Inside A Tipperary Family Home

By IMAGE Interiors
10th Jun 2016

Home to bespoke furniture designer Denise Walsh, her partner Stephen and their two children, this modernist Tipperary build manages to be super stylish, while remaining incredibly child-friendly. Having lived?in a top floor Georgian apartment for several years, the pair felt a change was needed; one that meant considerable more space.

Encouraged by their architect to opt for a “thoroughly modern design,” Denise and Stephen are?a world away from their previous home. Given her professional background, Denise collaborated on the design, creating?a space that functions as much aesthetically?as it does practically. All aspects of the house are put to daily use, which is best observed when standing on the unique wooden threshold that divides inside and out.

Every corner of this modern home speaks to minimalism and simplicity. In the open-plan kitchen, dining room and living area, bright and bold colours pepper throughout, while use of varied textures, from perspex to wood, adds depth.

With an island inspired by 1950s-inspired elements and sleek handleless cabinets, the kitchen straddles a contemporary and classic style.

In the main living area, patterns and colour are at play. In warmer months, the floor to ceiling windows can be pulled back to bring the outside in, while in winter, a roaring fire adds instant cosiness.
