Let’s Talk Tech

In the October issue of IMAGE, we meet the women shaking things up in Irish tech. Here’s our chat with another great IT girl, Melissa Meehan, Marketing & Communications Manager at the Digital Hub Development Agency.

What is it you do? I look after all marketing activities for the Digital Hub Development Agency – from strategy, planning and reporting to event management and digital marketing activities. We try to promote that our campus of eight buildings is home to a great group of people who have wealth of knowledge and experience, are working on exciting technology and digital media products and services and who are ready, willing and able to help each other out.

Favourite app I like news apps. It’s hard to pick one but I love the Journal.ie app, which I use daily for quickly catching up on news.?I also started using the Newswhip app recently and that’s great for finding the most popular stories globally.

Favourite gadget Like most of the population I would consider my iPhone my favourite gadget but you can hardly call it a ?gadget? anymore!?I just got a Belkin WeMo Switch which you plug into your lamp or radio at home and will allow you to control it (turn it on or off) remotely via an app you download to your phone. I use it as a handy home security device but the whole area of home automation and the concept of the ‘smart home? is really interesting to me.

Favourite social media Without a doubt Twitter. I use the app all the time, obviously for my work but I also use it for fun.?I’m also a really big fan of Vine, as there is so much creativity on it.

I want to get into tech – where do I start? If you can be confident in who you are and what you stand for as a person then you will succeed in your career whether that’s in business, tech, the creative industries, or as a caregiver. For a source of some really qualified advice I would recommend the inspiring women that work with various companies and organisations based at The Digital Hub campus.?The Digital Hub’s YouTube Channel has some short videos with these women in which they give great career advice in particular. Check it out here
