ICYMI: Weekend Round-Up

By Bill O'Sullivan
02nd Mar 2015

It’s been quite a busy weekend of news in the entertainment world. While everyone in Ireland was busy getting wrapped up in preparations for the big 6 Nations clash between Ireland and England at the Aviva Stadium(We won! Woo), two cast members of Fifty Shades of Grey were making headlines for entirely different reasons and one famous Irish singer was celebrating some great news.

Dakota Johnson was a special guest on NBC’s Saturday Night Live where she featured in a sketch which she plays a young girl who is leaving home to join ISIS. SNL is well-known for its often close to the bone satirical content but it’d appear they went too far with this one as it sparked outrage on soclal media with many claiming the “ad” was in poor taste in light of recent events. Clearly, Johnson did not write the sketch but that hasn’t stopped the public from criticising her decision to take part. Do you think the sketch was a mistake on the part of SNL or are people getting over-sensitive to satire?

Meanwhile, as the aforementioned episode of SNL was being aired in the States, Johnson’s Fifty Shades co-star Jamie Dornan was spotted doing something a little less controversial. He went to the pub, in Laois of all places. The star of The Fall hit Kelly’s in Borris-in-Ossory for a few pints of the black stuff and was happy to pose with punters for snaps.

Mr. Grey was then spotted at the Ireland match yesterday where he continued to be the nicest man in the world by posing for a whole host of pictures with other match-goers as he cheered on the boys in green.

There haven’t been many Sin?ad O’Connor related stories for a while, which is unusual for the Nothing Compares 2 U singer. However, this weekend O’Connor was in the news for one of the best possible reasons. She’s going to be a granny! It was reported in the Sydney Morning Herald that during a live performance in Perth, O’Connor claimed that she usually dedicates her song Thank You For Hearing Me to her daughter R?is?n “but I recently found out she’s having a baby in July, so I’ll dedicate this to my daughter’s baby…?It’s great when you’re going to be a granny, you don’t care that you look old!” It turns out this morning, however, that it’s in fact her son Jake’s girlfriend who is pregnant and not her daughter R?is?n as initially thought. O’Connor took to Facebook this morning to clarify the situation.
