Gone are the days of the fluffy facials. Now we want results, and need them instantly. MELANIE MORRIS selects a few of the most powerful performers to amp up some serious summer glow.
THE CLEAN START: The Yon-Ka Hydralessence Visage Facial
A perfect trans-season reviver to prep and plump the face for the summer months, this also tightens and tones skin texture. Aromatherapy lovers will particularly appreciate this, as the divine Yon-Ka products used throughout are rich in essential oils, fruit extracts and green tea, for a powerful antioxidant punch.
The facial begins with a warm compress to de-stress skin and open pores before a double cleanse and spritz with plant essences. A mechanical exfoliation follows with Gommage 305 (a cult hero), which renews by rubbing away dead cells. Then the glorious massaging begins – around the eyes and to the face and neck. Finally, two masks are applied to hydrate and brighten the complexion, while the head, arms and feet are massaged to bliss.
My skin felt completely refreshed and rebalanced, and looked beautifully dewy, which lasted long enough for me to get a better skin regime in place. I also felt extremely relaxed after the treatment.
THE SUPER- NATURAL: The Dr Hauschka Classic Facial
Glowing results using organic, natural products.
Tara O’Rourke is Dr Hauschka’s lead trainer in Ireland, with huge experience and a wide breadth of knowledge in the wider wellness field. Her Fitzwilliam Square room makes the location perfect for visitors to the capital to get real results over a lunchtime. Each Dr Hauschka treatment starts with an herbal foot bath during which skin and lifestyle issues are discussed. Once lying down, with a cosy hot water bottle, the treatment begins with deep cleansing, nourishing masks and massage. A key element is lymphatic drainage, conducted with gentle brushes to “sweep” away toxins, clear the skin, and strengthen the immune system. Hand, neck and shoulder massage completes the holistic experience, leaving the body revived and skin glowing.
An outstanding glow to the skin, and a sunnier disposition all over, thanks to Tara’s healing hands.
THE GAME- CHANGER: A Bespoke Biologique Recherche Facial
Skincare devotees who really want a new start, and an amazing complexion.
Olga Kochlewska knows a thing or two about great skin – she’s the expert’s expert, who’s trusted by beauty insiders, celebrities and ladies who know that the secret to looking well starts (and ends) with an excellent complexion. Using Biologique Recherche products, Olga combines thorough cleansing and deep facial massage, followed by galvanic (electric current) treatment to literally “lift” the face into shape. The process is very relaxing and involves plenty of pampering under the fluffiest duvet in Dublin.
I can honestly say I’ve never experienced such a positively dramatic result from a facial in Ireland. Olga puts in huge work to bring the skin to peak condition, literally melting away lines, saggy bits and dullness.
THE BRILLIANT BIG DAY: The Carita Diamond Facial
A fast track to beautiful, glowing skin, just in time for summer’s big occasions, special days and gala nights.
This very gentle facial is deceptively powerful and involves plenty of luxuriously pampering steps. There’s cleansing and lymphatic drainage, hot stone massage, lots of scalp, neck and shoulder work, hot towels to envelop hands and feet, and then the most powerful face masks and serums to elevate the complexion to peak radiance.
A marked difference to skin in one hour. This is a surefire winner for a party-ready complexion, as well as a total reboot for mind, body and soul.
