Spa review: ‘I came looking for rest and left with a renewed sense of calm’

Three hours from Dublin, nestled into the gorgeously scenic grounds of Dromoland Castle in Clare, The Castle Spa offers an award-winning spa experience to remember.

When was the last time you truly switched off?

Like most of us I spend way too much time scrolling, but this week I needed something more: stillness. As a Social Media Manager I am constantly on socials, scrolling to find the next trend, or trying to find the end of TikTok. But I needed an escape to totally switch off and relax. So, I booked in for a lovely treatment at The Castle Spa at Dromoland Castle.

I went for the Amber & Quartz Crystal Sound Bath Treatment, which invites you to experience the healing power of sound as it resonates through your body. The therapeutic benefits of the Amber & Quartz Crystal Bed are blended with a soothing head, neck and shoulder massage as the vibrations lull the mind into a meditative state. Put simply, it was absolutely heavenly.

The team was so accommodating and made me feel like a real VIP. I was so impressed with all of the little touches throughout the spa, from the changing room to the gorgeous silky robe, even the charging facility inside the lockers, including signature details like a jewellery bag for your belongings. Everything was so thought through and I was so impressed in just the first ten minutes of being here.

I was then welcomed to a relaxing area where I was given a wellness shot to drink alongside some photobooks to look at as I waited to go in for my treatment. The lovely Laura from the team welcomed me to the treatment room and showed me the heated Amber Quartz Crystal bed that I would be lying on, (there are only three of these in Ireland by the way!).

This bed was divine, so cosy and relaxing, with little crystals of rose quartz heated by the base that made me feel so serene. The bed moulded to the shape of my body, so total relaxation was unlocked. The treatment itself was so blissful and felt really perfect with its timings, as it included a sound bath, body and head massage. Absolute bliss.

Carefully curated by hand, the spa was full with amazing brands like Seabody and OSKIA, the creams and oils from these smelled so incredible and felt so luxurious. The Castle Spa has you covered for a premium deluxe treat all handpicked by the team, you can count that you’ll leave glowing but also nourished with products that truly care for your skin.

After the treatment I floated into The Whisper Room, where I sank into a massage chair, along with a complimentary heated eye mask. This was so lovely. I felt so nurtured and completely rested. Afterwards, I had some tea and chocolate and to top it all off, a glass of bubbles. Cocooned in comfort, the experience was incredible and I found myself super looked after by the team and I think everything was really considered. The team’s thoughtfulness and attention to detail was like no other.

I came here looking for a rest and I left with a renewed sense of calm. If you wanted to extend your wellness experience, you could take some lovely walks around the castle grounds, exploring the picturesque scenery of the lake. Or perhaps booking in for some afternoon tea, or even stay for a night and really relish what Dromoland has to offer. You genuinely won’t want to leave.
