Here is everything you need to know about season 5 of Lucifer on Netflix

Netflix has released the trailer for season five of its hit show Lucifer – here is everything you need to know

Are you a fan of Netflix’s Lucifer?

Well, get ready for season five. The streaming service released the trailer for the next series yesterday and it has already clocked over 3.5 million views.

The series stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, a beautiful and powerful angel who was cast out of Heaven for betrayal. He becomes the Devil but becomes bored and unhappy in his role as the Lord of Hell. After resigning from the throne in defiance to his father (God), he abandons hell for Los Angeles, where he ends up running a nightclub and becomes involved in police work with Detective Chloe Decker, played by Lauren German.

Lucifer was run on Fox from season one to three but was cancelled due to low viewership figures. However, Netflix saw its appeal and picked up the series for season 4. It received critical acclaim and saw a surge in popularity, becoming the platform’s second most binged show of 2019.

Season 5 begins with the aftermath of Lucifer’s decision to return to hell, which sees Chloe struggling with the loss and travelling a destructive path.

It appears all is to become well again when Lucifer returns, yet something is slightly off. The trailer reveals that it is not Lucifer that has come to earth – it’s his twin brother, Michael. Lucifer’s sibling seems intent on destroying the life his twin has built on earth leading to a showdown between the pair.

The fifth series will be released in two parts, with the first dropping on August 21. The show has also been renewed by Netflix for a sixth and final season.
