Despite the fact that actress Eva Longoria recently announced her engagement, the star recently said she was going to miss her single life, as it “empowered” her in the best way possible. With it being Christmas, the bulk of festive ads centre around couples walking merrily along, gloved-hands clasped. While it’s wonderful to celebrate the season with a significant other, this message that the world is a happier place if you’re part of a couple can leave those who are without a plus one feeling inadequate and amplify feelings of loneliness.
We’ve long had some inspiring females tell us that it is a great thing to enjoy time with yourself that is only yours, and the words mean something. Unless you can get?comfortable being by yourself as will inevitably be the case at some point, it can make relationships difficult; how are you meant to aim for happiness as a couple if you don’t know what makes you happy while alone? Taking time out to discover this is never a bad thing, and this is what Longoria set about doing after her previous marriage ended.
“Some people said, ‘Oh. You don’t want to be alone.’ And I said, ‘I’m not alone! I’m with myself. And myself is fabulous.'”
In a recent interview with People, the star’said that she chose to remain single by choice. While she probably had a ton of potential suitors to choose from, she said that it was key to her future happiness that she take some time for herself.
“Some people said, ‘Oh. You don’t want to be alone.’ And I said, ‘I’m not alone! I’m with myself. And myself is fabulous,'” she’said.
Even when she was on a couples trip to Europe, she explained that she felt completely at ease and it prepared her when the right one came along.
“People went, ‘Aw. Did you feel weird?’ And I said, ‘No! I had so much fun! These are my best friends.'”
“It’s not like you change because you became a single person. It’s not like you become an alien,” she added. “I learned to be content on my own. I think I needed that to be ready for what I have with Pepe.”
Much like when you travel alone, taking a break from the relationship side of things can yield many advantages. You get to truly ask yourself what it is you want out of life and can really focus on getting it (and yes, we know you can also do this while in a pairing) without having to worry about a second person or their wants or worries, which is rare enough. And in case you’re worried that sounds a little selfish, don’t. It doesn’t. Never apologise for wanting to focus more on yourself, even for a short time.?Play your part in finding your happy place be this with or without another. Life is short, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but what is certain is that it is too precious to waste it worrying about why you may not have a girlfriend or boyfriend. Get out there and work it; live your live and be happy and the rest will follow.
