Emma Watson Launches New Gender Equality Campaign

The Harry Potter actress continues to promote the powerful He for She feminist message.

This morning saw the admirable Emma Watson speak to the influential crowds at the World Economic Forum in Davos about the gender equality campaign she fronts, #HeForShe. Watson was appointed a goodwill ambassador for UN Women last year and has so far excelled in the role.

#HeForShe focuses on including men in the feminist cause and was an incredible social media success last year, sparking more 1.2 billion conversations across various sites since its launch in September.

The next stage in the HeForShe project is IMPACT 10X10X10 and aims to end inequalities faced by women and girls around the world. It will be a one year initiative initially and will target universities, governments and corporations asking such organisations to make commitements to empowering women and promoting gender equality. Such asks will take #HeForShe into a more tangibable stage and banish accusation of ‘slacktivisim? – when social sharing doesn’t deliever on social change.

The actress called on politicians and business owners to get on board with the amazing initiative. ?We need all-country leadership, as well as that of hundreds of universities and corporations,? the?Harry Potteractress explained. UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon sat on the same panel as Watson as she spoke.

Have a watch of the video. You might cry some proud tears while you’re at it.
