Ed Sheeran Is Definitely Starring In The New Bridget Jones

Are you excited for Bridget Jones 3 AKA Bridget Jone’s Baby, the third and probably final installment in the romantic comedy juggernaut? Well, if the prospect of?Ren?e Zellweger reuniting with Colin Firth and some very good scriptwriting doesn’t have you eagerly anticipating next year’s release, the news that Ed Sheeran, the patron saint of our PMS playlist, is starring in the movie might be the ingredient to get you interested.

The singer posted a photo to Instagram yesterday of himself with Ren?e Zellweger and captioned the shot with, “Spent the day being an actor in the new Bridget Jones movie. Loved it, you’re gonna love it too.” That’s saved a publicist a few hours of phone calls. Ed famously starred in an episode of Home and Away, so don’t worry about his acting abilities. The A-Team singer will be joining Patrick Dempsey in the movie. Dempsey, formerly of Grey’s Anatomy, seems to be replacing Hugh Grant’s caddish Daniel Cleaver as a counterpoint to Firth’s steady Mark Darcy.

We wonder if Ed will be penning an original song for the movie? He’s already contributed to the soundtracks of modern weepie classic The Fault in our Stars and The Hobbit: The Drawn Out Second Entry In The Unnecessary Trilogy. Considering the previous two Bridget Jones movies have had stellar soundtracks – all together now, “OUT OF REACH SO FAAAAAAR – we think a nice little ballad from Ed would be the perfect closing titles song. Especially if those closing titles include Colin Firth cradling a baby. How are those ovaries holding up?

P.S. Here’s the best clip in movie history to make Wednesday bearable.
