A Celine Dion biopic is in the works… here’s what we know so far

Following the incredible success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocket Man, a biopic based on Celine Dion’s life is now in the works. According to Variety, the film will be named after one of the singer’s most popular songs, The Power Of Love, and is expected to be released in 2020.

It’s said to reenact Celine’s life; from when she was born in Quebec in 1968 to the modern day. It will show her “modest upbringing”, as well as her relationship with her late husband René Angélil. René, who had suffered from both throat cancer and a heart attack, was also Celine’s manager; so his death in 2016 came as a huge loss.

Their relationship and career story will be interspersed with all of the 50-year-old’s most famous songs; including My Heart Will Go On and All by Myself.

French filmmaker Valerie Lemercier will direct the film, as well as starring as Celine Dion. Speaking to Variety about the singer’s relationships with her husband and mother, Valerie said, “I discovered the strength of their love story and their great humour, and I better understood how the alchemy of their three individual ambitions made an unwanted, little girl the greatest star on the planet.”

It seems the majority of the film will be shot in French; with filming due to start in March. The production, led by French studio Gaumont, is set to last 18 weeks; with scenes shot in Canada, France, Spain and Las Vegas.

Celine Dion and her record company have both approved the project and given the rights to use her songs. Plus, with a budget of $23 million, it’s expected to be a box office success.
