Fast cars, fierce chemistry and full-throttle glamour, F1® The Movie isn’t just for sports fans. Here’s why we think this is an absolute must-see this summer, and why IMAGE staffers are counting down the days to the premiere. Want to join us on the night? Enter our giveaway to WIN tickets to the Irish premiere.

Even if you’ve never watched a race in your life, F1® The Movie is set to be your must-see film of the summer. Starring Brad Pitt as legendary former driver Sonny Hayes and Ireland’s own Kerry Condon as the woman who challenges him both on and off the track, this is a story of redemption, romance and reinvention – set against the fast-paced, high-stakes world of Formula 1.

Once tipped to be the greatest in the sport, Sonny walked away from racing after a devastating crash in the ’90s. Now, thirty years later, he’s lured back into the driver’s seat by his old teammate (played by Javier Bardem) to help save a struggling F1 team. But it’s not just his legacy that’s on the line; he’s teamed up with hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), who’s out to make a name for himself.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and filmed during real Grand Prix weekends, F1® The Movie blends thrilling on-track action with cinematic drama and fashion-forward style, and we can’t wait.

So, still think it’s just a sports movie? Think again. Here are 10 reasons you need to see the film.

1. It stars Kerry Condon

Oscar-nominated and undeniably magnetic, Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) takes centre stage as the film’s female lead. Poised, powerful and utterly compelling, her performance brings depth, heart and serious Irish pride to this big-budget blockbuster.

“I love any excuse to watch Kerry Condon on the big screen – especially when that excuse is a summer blockbuster from the filmmakers of Top Gun: Maverick. I cannot wait for this movie!” – Katie Brady, Marketing & Membership Executive

2.  And Brad Pitt

Need we say more? Charismatic and rugged, Pitt delivers the performance of Sonny with soul, swagger and just the right amount of vulnerability. And yes, the romantic tension with Kerry Condon’s character is very real.

3. It’s from the director of Top Gun: Maverick

Director Joseph Kosinski brings the same visual spectacle and pulse-racing momentum to F1® The Movie as he did to Top Gun: Maverick. Expect sweeping shots, big emotions and edge-of-your-seat action.

“I’m so excited for the mix of high-speed action and Hollywood glamour! With Brad Pitt behind the wheel and some real F1 legends rumoured to appear, it’s shaping up to be the ultimate racing spectacle.” – Ciara Cosgrove, Director of Events & Partnerships

4. The fashion is next level

With costume designer Julian Day (Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody) behind the wardrobe, every scene is dripping in style. Think leather racing suits, pit lane power dressing and Monaco-worthy glamour.

5. It was shot at real Grand Prix weekends

Forget green screens, F1® The Movie was filmed during actual Grand Prix events. That means the noise, the speed and the atmosphere? It’s all real. You’re not just watching the world of Formula 1, you’re inside it.

“I’m honestly so excited for F1® The Movie – the drama, the team rivalries, and of course the glamour. I adore catching glimpses of the race style, from sleek tailoring and designer looks to everything feeling so effortlessly cool!” – Susan Vickers, Account Manager

6. The score is by Hans Zimmer

If anyone can make a racing scene feel like an emotional reckoning, it’s Hans Zimmer. His original score turns every twist and turn into a cinematic experience.

7. It’s got serious heat

This isn’t just a redemption story, it’s a romantic one too. With undeniable chemistry between Pitt and Condon, plus the high-stakes tension of elite racing, this film simmers with intensity and passion.

“I can’t wait to see F1® The Movie! The excitement of the sport enthrals me but so does the glitz, glamour and style of everything that comes with it so I’m very excited to see what this movie has in store.” – Meghan Killalea, Marketing Account Executive

8. You don’t need to know anything about F1 to get hooked

Whether you can name every world champion or still think a pit stop is where you grab snacks, F1® The Movie works as a standalone drama. At its core, it’s about rivalry, redemption and ambition and what it takes to chase down your past.

9. It’s a female gaze-friendly action film

Finally, a big-screen action movie that’s not just for the lads. With a powerful female performance, emotional nuance and chic glamour, F1® The Movie is everything we’ve been craving in a summer blockbuster.

“I am manifesting a race day in Monaco, purely because I adore any excuse to dress up! I will be going all out to see this in cinemas and am so excited to grab the girls for this one (mainly for Brad Pitt and the glam side of F1 of course!).” – Dearbhla Lovett, IMAGE First Activations Freelancer

10. You could win tickets to the Irish premiere

Even better? Here’s your chance to see it before anyone else.
