bill murray at George and Amal Clooney's wedding
Big Bill Murray fans. Ghostbusters, The Life Aquatic, Lost in Translation – the actor can do no wrong. And the man himself is hilarious if his hijinks in real life are anything to go by.
Yesterday Hollywood bible Variety announced that the beloved star would be teaming up with indie darling director, and IMAGE.ie career heroine, Sofia Coppola for a television Christmas special. The show will feature Murray singing classic carols, but ?(I)t won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music,? Murray told Variety.
?It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose. It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice.?
Won’t this make the perfect double-bill with his 1980s take on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Scrooged?
Coppola and Murray last worked together on Lost in Translation – a seminal movie for both as it signalled Coppola as a director to watch and Murray as a comedic actor with some serious drama credentials.
In recent months Murray has been making us do nothing but genuinely laugh out loud. His Graham Norton show with Hugh Bonneville and Matt Damon was a thing of beauty. Earlier this summer he gave a bachelor party some impromptu life advice in a video that went viral, “If you have someone you think is the one? Take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. If when you come back to JFK , when you land in JFK and you are still in love with that person, get married at the airport!” You can also be certain he was the best craic at George Clooney and Amal Almuddin’s wedding.
