13 of the best light cardigans to wear on cool summer evenings

13 of the best light cardigans to wear on cool summer evenings

Though we don’t like to admit it, Irish summers are notoriously chilly – here are 13 of the best light cardigans to solve that problem

We are a nation of notions.

The first sign of warm weather makes us take off all our clothes. We seem to think we are immune to the chill, but we are not. Irish summers are rarely what we wish them to be. Though we like to think we are sunning along the French Riviera, in actuality, it’s the river Shannon and we must accept that.

This reality is cold in both a literal and figurative sense.

The evenings cause shivering. Even at its warmest, the Irish summer turns cool once the sun begins to set.

This is where a light cardigan becomes your most useful and trusted friend.

A renaissance

Cardigans have experienced quite a renaissance in recent months. We adore nostalgia and nothing screams the nineties (or reminds us of our grandmothers) more than a cardigan.

It’s a piece that transcends generations. The TikTok crew of Gen-Z and late millennials adore them just as much as the Facebook contingent. They are casual-chic done right. Pair with jeans, shorts, skirts, or layer over a t-shirt or a dress when the crispness becomes too much. Versatile, practical, easy to wear and easy to store – cardigans are a summer saviour.

They are the ultimate ‘throw on and go but still look effortlessly stylish’ piece.

And, most importantly, they will help to keep those notions in check.
