Benedict Cumberbatch And Sophie Hunter Name Their Baby Boy

Benedict Cumberbatch And Sophie Hunter Name Their Baby Boy

It seems to be the season of lovely baby names. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter welcomed their first child; a baby boy, back in June and details of his name have been kept quiet until now. According to the Daily Mail, the new parents have chosen Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch, and though it is nobody’s business, we like the name choice. The couple has gone down the traditional route though the name is reportedly significant to the family.

While Benedict played Christopher Tietjens in the Sir Tom Stoppard television adaptation of Parade’s End (we’re assuming he didn’t name his son for that reason), it appears he kept to family tradition with Carlton, as it is both Benedict and his father Tim’s middle name. You can’t go wrong with a family choice.

Though some have pointed out the triple c connotations of the otherwise elegant name – Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch – to suggest he was named after a rapper sounds more than a little absurd.

The couple are notoriously private so we doubt we’ll be seeing them out and about with their Cumberbaby?anytime soon, particularly as Cumberbatch is busy avoiding mobs of screaming girls as he continues his critically acclaimed performance in Hamlet at London’s Barbican.

Back in June, a spokesman for the pair said: ?Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son.” Cumberbatch insisted that he was ?not nervous at all? upon learning of Hunter’s pregnancy.

?We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during these next few precious weeks,? the spokesperson added.

The couple announced their engagement in November last year in the Forthcoming Marriages section of The Times newspaper.

It was confirmed in January they were expecting their first child together, and they married on the Isle of Wight on Valentine’s Day in February.
