Meghan Markle’s cruelty-free skincare is safe to use during pregnancy

The world has gone royal baby mad since Meghan Markle’s pregnancy was announced this week. Bookies are already taking bets on what the baby’s name could be (odds are in favour of Alexander, Arthur and Alice); while other people are scrutinising photographs in search of Meghan’s bump.

At IMAGE, we’re looking towards her beauty routine. The Duchess of Sussex has been known to use Eminence Organic Skincare products since she first appeared in Suits, and has particularly favoured the brand’s firming, anti-ageing solutions. Lucky for her, all of these products are safe for use during pregnancy.

Retinol alternatives

Retinol, or vitamin A, is a common ingredient in skincare products. It helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars and pigmentation, but it can be harmful to unborn babies. In a statement shared by Eminence this morning, the brand said, “If your skin is particularly used to retinol (which is contraindicated in pregnancy), you can use the Bamboo Fluid to maintain your anti-ageing regime throughout the nine months.”

“It contains a natural retinol alternative,” they explain, “made from chicory root oligosaccharides and tara tree, which smoothes and decreases the appearance of wrinkles.” What’s more, the brand’s coconut anti-ageing moisturiser (which also contains the retinol alternative) firms the skin and protects it from free radicals.

Lastly, Meghan is believed to use the citrus exfoliating wash. The formula contains fresh lime juice, which removes impurities; while grapefruit seed and silica leave skin appearing luminously clear. The brand notes a little goes a long way; a coin-sized amount is all you need for a perfect cleanse.

The products are also cruelty-free, something which is very important to the royal mum-to-be. Eminence is internationally recognised as a member of the Leaping Bunny Program; which means they have never, ever, tested on animals. The brand also plants one tree for every product it sells in an effort to preserve the natural environment we live in.
