Saoírse Ruane has passed away
Saoírse Ruane, who appeared on The Toy Show and inspired millions, has died aged 12. Saoírse, from Co Galway, appeared on the Late Late Toy Show in 2020 and her family has said they are “shattered” by her passing. In a post on Instagram, her parents said Saoírse “took her final breath in our arms”. Her parents added: “We think of you all today also, as we know how much Saoírse was loved by the nation and the effect she had on so many people’s lives.” During her segment on The Toy Show, Saoírse spoke about living with a rare form of cancer called Osteosarcoma.
Man arrested as murder investigation under way in Belfast
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a man in west Belfast last night, police have said. PSNI detectives began a murder investigation after the man was found seriously injured in the Cupar Street area just after 8pm. The man died in hospital a short time later. A 35-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody.
Rust armourer found guilty of involuntary manslaughter
A film set weapons armourer who loaded a gun for US actor Alec Baldwin which fired and killed a cinematographer has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty after a two-week trial in Santa Fe, New Mexico, following the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of western film Rust in October 2021.
Two men charged in connection to investigation into human trafficking
Gardaí in Cork have charged two men who were arrested in connection to an investigation into human trafficking and labour exploitation. The two men in their 30s and 40s, are expected to appear before Midleton District Court this morning. A third man in his 30s has been released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Gardaí searched five locations in Co. Cork and two locations in Co. Roscommon. In addition to arrests, items of evidential value were seized during the courses of the searches.
