Man being questioned after body discovered in Kildare
A 40-year-old man is still being questioned by gardaí in connection with the murder of another man in Kilcock, Co Kildare. The 50-year-old victim died violently at an apartment on School Street in the town. He was attacked and stabbed to death sometime between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
Woman arrested after body of six-year-old found in Waterford
A woman has been arrested following the discovery of the body of a six-year-old boy in Co Waterford. It’s understood the boy was found in Dunmore East.
Gardaí probe asylum-seeker arson
Gardaí are building up “a pool of information” from separate investigations into 19 unexplained fires at properties linked to asylum seekers, which could reveal if there are any links to prominent far-right agitators. Senior gardaí and investigators continue to maintain that there is no evidence, to date, of any co-ordination or directing of arson attacks by far-right individuals or extremist political groupings.
Joe Biden won’t face charges over classified documents
Joe Biden’s fitness to continue as president, let alone run for the White House again, is beginning to be questioned after a special counsel investigation into the handling of classified documents said he portrayed himself as an “elderly man with a poor memory”. Robert Hur said President Biden had “wilfully retained and disclosed classified materials” after he was vice president and when he was a “private citizen”, and his actions “present serious risks to national security”.
Dublin collision
A woman in her 70s has died after a road collision involving a jeep in Dublin. Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred shortly before 7am on Thursday on Ballinteer Avenue, Ballinteer. The woman, who was a pedestrian, was taken to St James’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported, gardaí said, and Ballinteer Avenue has reopened to traffic.
