President Higgins in ‘excellent spirits’
President Michael D Higgins remained in hospital overnight following tests, however he was said to be in “excellent spirits”. President Higgins, 82, was brought to hospital for precautionary tests after feeling unwell yesterday evening. In a statement, Áras an Uachtaráin said that he was initially assessed at the Áras where “no immediate concerns were identified but a decision was made to proceed to hospital in order to undergo tests, the initial results of which have been positive. “The President, who will remain in hospital overnight, is in excellent spirits and has thanked the medical staff for the care he has received.”

More than 100 people have been shot dead after a crowd rushed towards aid trucks in Gaza. Over 750 people were also hurt in the incident. Ryanair flight cancellations
Ryanair has announced it will cancel flights this summer due to delays in aircraft deliveries. The airline said it will be forced to make “minor schedule changes” as it will only receive 40 of the 57 planned Boeing 737 MAX 8200 planes before the end of June. Ryanair’s current summer schedule is based on it receiving a minimum of 50. The carrier said in a statement: “Ryanair will now have to reduce approximately 10 aircraft lines of flying for the peak summer months of July, August and September.

Ballyseedy Restaurant Ltd trading ceased
Ballyseedy Restaurant Ltd’s CEO Nathan McDonnell has been charged in connection with the State’s biggest crystal meth seizure, and has written to suppliers this week saying it is “unable” to pay any outstanding bills. The news has come as a shock for local suppliers, some of whom are now down thousands of euros in a particularly difficult trading period. Ballyseedy Restaurant Ltd ceased trading on Sunday and the company has now said that it is “unable” to pay suppliers. Suppliers were informed “with a heavy heart” that Ballyseedy Restaurant Ltd would cease trading from Sunday “due to circumstances beyond our control.”

Sleet and snow has been falling in parts of the country as Met Éireann issued a series of Status Yellow weather warnings. A Status Yellow snow and ice warning is in operation for Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Sligo, Roscommon, Westmeath and Leitrim until 10am, with falls of sleet and snow forecast, leading to possible icy stretches on untreated surfaces and poor visibility. A Status Yellow snow and ice warning has been issued for Wicklow, with falls of sleet and snow forecast. The warning will be in effect until 3pm.
