The jury’s still out on Depp v Heard, but that didn’t stop the actor-cum-musician appearing at a gig with his ‘musical soul mate’.
The lengthy celebrity defamation trial drew to a close last week, and while the jury are poised and ready to continue deliberations, Johnny Depp has flown from Virginia to the UK for an impromptu appearance at Sheffield City Hall.
Joining rock guitarist and music collaborator Jeff Beck on his European tour, the pair jammed out renditions of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Little Wing’ and Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’.

In 2020, Depp and Beck recorded a reimagining of John Lennon’s classic ‘Isolation’. According to Beck’s website, the pair had been working on music together for quite some time, and though they didn’t expect to release the track so soon, they thought the timing was fitting as people were going through hard times.
“You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while but until then we hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic,” Beck says.
Johnny Depp added, “Jeff Beck and I recorded this song ‘Isolation’ last year, as our take on a beautiful John Lennon tune … This song is about isolation, fear, and existential risks to our world. We wanted to give it to you, and hope it helps you make sense of the moment or just helps you pass the time as we endure isolation together.”

Depp has amassed quite the musical resume of his own, playing in the Hollywood Vampires supergroup with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. He has also collaborated with the likes of Oasis, Marilyn Manson and Stone Temple Pilots.
In 2015, the Hollywood Vampires had a recording session with Paul McCartney, and Depp even appeared in the music video for his song, ‘My Valentine’.
It has been rumoured that Depp may join Beck for further tour dates at the Royal Albert Hall in London, but these events will clash with deliberations taking place in Fairfax County Courtroom back in Virginia.

The seven-member jury is made up of five men and two women, and while they were sent home for the long weekend, they’re due back in court at 9am on Tuesday to reach a decision on the Depp v Heard defamation trial.
