Have you always wanted to work in travel? Eleanor Roche shares how she made the switch from accounting

She may not have had previous experience in the industry, but her skills and interests have helped her embrace a new career path with Travel Counsellors.

Travel is a passion for so many people, and perhaps you’ve thought that you’d enjoy working in this interesting, exciting sector.

Although it can be daunting to make the leap if you don’t have any specific experience in this field, Travel Counsellors Travel Academy training course welcomes people from all walks of life through their doors.

Eleanor Roche and Lynne Keane from Travel Counsellors

Travel Counsellors is a leading independent travel company delivering bespoke corporate and leisure travel services. They equip their trainees with the tech and tools, ongoing training, a personal mentor, and provide all licensing and bonding to ensure they kick-start their businesses the right way. No matter their previous experience, all they need is a passion for travel and the ambition and drive to become successful business owners.

Eleanor Roche from Waterford is one such example. Having previously worked as a chartered accountant, her love of travel, in particular the many cruise holidays she had taken, inspired her to pursue a career in the industry.

Through the Travel Counsellors Academy Programme and using her contacts from her old life she has established herself as a concierge travel expert, specialising in cruise holidays.

She says that there is real value in how Travel Counsellors take on individuals “who may not have worked in travel or studied travel, and taking them on for their skills and expertise”.

Having welcomed two children since she started in 2019, Eleanor has also enjoyed the flexibility her new career offers. “Travel Counsellors really afford flexibility and adaptability to families,” she says. “I have the flexibility to work my own schedule.”

You can find out more about Eleanor’s path to becoming a Travel Counsellor in the video above, where she has her partner Paul talk about how the move has worked for both of them.

If you like the sound of starting your own travel business; you are well travelled but have no previous experience in the industry, then pop on over to the Travel Counsellors website
