H&M’s latest designer collaboration with Italian-based label Moschino is further proof that the retailer has an uncanny knack for translating luxury ready-to-wear into pieces that not only look great, but are also extremely affordable.  Playful, in-your-face, flamboyant and brassy are the most form-fitting ways to describe Moschino’s upcoming collaboration with high-street hero H&M, which is due for release on November 8th.

ICYMI: Jeremy Scott on feminism, Moschino, and his creative ventures

For those unfamiliar with Moschino and its Creative Designer Jeremy Scott‘s over-the-top aesthetic and long list of celebrity friends (queue Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Anna Dello Russo, Beyoncé, Gigi Hadid and Imaan Hammam, to name a small few), think gold extravagance meets 80’s discotheque. The collection features fifty-eight pieces in total (thirty-four women, twenty-four men) and ranges in price from €30 to €340.

With wild prints, TV-themed motifs, oversized accessories, underwear as outerwear and a powerful presence that is credible, this collection is not for wallflowers. What it is though, is a lesson in how to wear lounge-wear as going out outfits, paired with lace-up booties and track pants emblazoned with gold chains, of course. A brightly-coloured (faux) fur stole draped over the shoulders is the perfect way to ‘adult-up’ a knitted Minnie Mouse mini dress (I’m wearing mine over leather trousers), and, if in doubt, stacks of gold bangles, oversized gold belts, ‘Moschino’ chocker collars, and XXL gold earrings will be your saving sartorial grace.

Silhouettes are short, shapes are slashed, cosy is the new going out, colours are punchy, and T-shirts and jackets are emblazoned with signature Moschino chains. Speaking about the collaboration with Vogue.co.uk, Jeremy Scott said his vision for this collection came about through “the mood of ‘street’, the mix and attitude of haute couture and humour”. In typical Moschino fashion, with this high-street collaboration you get “cartoon characters, bold Moschino jewellery, you get sequins and shiny things, and a mix and juxtaposition of elements you don’t normally find together”, he continued. This is Scott’s first big collection since his long-standing partnership with Adidas which ended in 2017.

Ahead of the launch, H&M released the full lookbook and it’s just as I expected it to look: a house party with all your favourite friends with plenty of energy, spirit, confidence and sex-appeal. Take a look at the full gallery above and start bookmarking your favourite pieces.
