Karl Lagerfeld Defends Fur

Karl Lagerfeld Defends Fur

Karl Lagerfeld loves to court controversy, and his latest comments on fur in fashion are going to incense a lot of people.

The designer is set to present Fendi’s first fur-centric show in July – he’s the brands creative director – and responded to criticisms of the future ?Haute Fourrure? collection in the New York Times, saying, “It’s very easy to say no fur, no fur, no fur, but it’s an industry.?Who will pay for all the unemployment of the people if you suppress the industry of the fur?”

With all that jobs rhetoric down, maybe our government should hire Mr. Lagerfeld? After all, the man has quite the work ethic. Fendi’s fur show clashes with Chanel’s couture collection, a fact that will not faze Karl, we imagine. In the same interview he said of stress, ?I don’t believe in it. It’s a job, one should not become hysterical.?

While last Autumn’s ?feminist? Chanel show proclaimed the empowerment of women, journalists were quick to remind of previous times the designer wasn’t such an avowed ally. He’s on record as saying, ?I was never a feminist because I was never ugly enough for that.?

It’ll take more than an artfully tailored tweed jacket to win over the sisterhood, Karl. And you might want to hide all your jackets if animal rights protesters book flights to Paris this summer?
