Jason Biggs Sparks Twitter Outrage

Orange is the New Black actor, Jason Biggs (known more so for his shameful antics with an apple pie in the American Pie series, or these days, for his utter lack of tact on Twitter) has landed himself in rather hot water after sharing what many understandably consider to be a rather insensitive tweet in relation to yesterday’s Malaysian Airlines tragedy.

Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?”, said the actor shortly after the news of the plane crash broke, causing utter outrage on Twitter.

First of all, while we’re normally all for freedom of speech, to tweet something like this on the very day of this devastating event, and make light of a situation when there are still passengers to be accounted for, is far from wise for anyone. Secondly, when your career positions you in the public eye like Biggs’, you must always be mindful when commenting on such subjects, right? Like it or not, exercising a certain level of social responsibility and tweeting with an air of caution when you’ve reached a certain level of fame is just par for the course.

Then, adding insult to injury, rather than swiftly apologise for something that could well have been shared with little consideration, Biggs tweeted: “The idea that I wouldnt have any empathy 4 the victims or their families because I make a joke is absolutely ridiculous. U know that, right?”

Which he then followed up with: “Truly- you losers are literally trying to find shit to get angry about. Channel your issues elsewhere.”

After some time, Biggs then realised the error of his ways, and finally apologised:

What do you think, should actors and performers (or anyone in the public eye) be expected to take more care than the average Joe when sharing their thoughts online?
