3 Hip Indie Food Events Happening This Month

Indie MrMrs

As Ireland’s established food festivals and events go from strength to strength, they are being complemented by more and more smaller events from producers taking a low-key approach. We’ve made a list of three exciting indie food events we’re circling in our diary this month…

Celebrating its tenth?birthday this year, Taste of Dublin is set to take over the Iveagh Gardens once again from June 11-14,?with four days of indulgent summer eating and drinking. Hot on its heels are these more intimate foodie gatherings…

Sweet Beat Talks @ S? Sligo Food Fest, June 10-12. Super-hip plant-based health caf? Sweet Beat in Sligo are hosting a series of fresh fringe events as part of this year’s S? Sligo Food Festival. Featuring coffee workshops by Irish coffee wizards 3FE, an introduction to raw food by Gaby Wieland from Neant?g?Farm and North Leitrim’s Organic Centre (with tastings of dairy free milk and gluten-free crackers); a masterclass in food branding from the album-cover worthy creative duo Mr & Mrs Stevens; and a special two-hour workshop focusing on fermentation, seaweed and green eating with Katie Sanderson. A line-up this cool deserves a huge turn-out. Tickets from €10. (Image via Sweet Beat Caf?)

Concrete Tiki Razing in the Gardens of IMMA, June 14. The culmination of the popular Summer Rising: IMMA Festival this year will take the form of a festive outdoor party curated by Michelle Darmody of The Cake Caf? and artist Fiona Hallinan. With the perfect summery setting in the gorgeous gardens at The Irish Museum of Modern Art, a feast of sumptuous South Indian food from foodie favourite Madina and cocktails by Domestic Godless followed by handmade nougat, wild tea, drinks and dancing around the Concrete Tiki – built by artists for last year’s festival. It sounds like the perfect remedy to the rainy bank-holiday weekend. Tickets €20.

Meet the Brewers @ Cooks Academy, June 15. Second in a series of Meet the Producer events by Biabeag, Meet the Brewers will focus on the advancing art of Irish craft beer, introducing a few of the newest entrants to the burgeoning brewing industry. With a line-up of craft-beer producers with varying levels of experience, the event will contrast the changing landscape for craft brewery start-ups over the last four or five years. Speakers include Caroline Hennessy from Cork brewery 8 Degrees and co-author of Sl?inte: The Complete Guide to Irish Craft Beer and Cider, Barry O’Neill from the recently founded three-brother outfit O’Brother Brewing, and Daire Harlin from Br? Brewery. (Image courtesy of Hot Press)
