Irish Marine Scientist Finn van der Aar is driving change in partnership with Volvo. Here, she talks about her favourite part of her job and how she is contributing to a more sustainable future.

We are launching a new sustainability series in partnership with Volvo, and marine scientist Finn van der Aar kicks things off by discussing her exciting role in preserving the planet.

As our series continues, we will speak to Finn about highlights of her job, animal welfare, biodiversity and simple ways that we can be more sustainable in our everyday lifestyle, from eco-friendly fashion and beauty routines to driving the fully electric Volvo XC40.


As part of its commitment to sustainability, Volvo Cars is taking a strong ethical standpoint for animal welfare. It’s removing leather interiors from its fully electric cars and working to reduce the use of residual products from livestock production, commonly used within or in the production of plastics, rubber, lubricants and adhesives. Volvo Cars is making this transition to support animal welfare and to help eliminate the negative environmental impacts of cattle farming, including deforestation.
