Vinted is in Ireland – here’s what a stylist has on her wishlist and her top tips for buying and selling

by Kara O'Sullivan
20th Nov 2024

Personal stylist Kara O'Sullivan is a second-hand shopping specialist, who credits Vinted as the spending saviour behind her sartorial secrets. Now that the fashion reseller app beloved by style savvy shoppers worldwide has landed in Ireland, she shares her tips and tricks for buying and selling on the platform and the designer pieces on her wishlist, from Miu Miu shoes to Chanel sunglasses. Don't hang around – nothing haunts you like the pre-loved pieces you didn’t buy.

The day has finally come! I cannot believe it, but finally, Vinted is now available in Ireland.

You will now be the ultimate best-dressed for less. I’m talking bargains better than you could ever imagine. If it looks too good to be true, I swear it’s true!

Any time I am at home in Dublin and get compliments or questions on an outfit that I’ve mostly sourced on Vinted, people never believe me when I tell them how little I spent on the look – it is truly a gold mine! With the risk of sounding dramatic, Vinted has honestly changed my life. I even stated in writing before that I would start a petition to bring Vinted to the Irish – I can’t take credit for the launch unfortunately, that was just luck – but I am so excited to be sharing my top tips and tricks with you.

Of course, it will be overwhelming at first. There is an endless ocean of possible pieces to shop. Don’t panic, I’m here to help you not only get your head around it but to teach you to go pro in no time.

Pieces I’ve bought on Vinted

Pink Blumarine T-shirt €30, white Repetto Ballet Flats, €25

Tips and tricks for buying

Favourite as many things as you can in the beginning. The algorithm needs to get to know you! Trust me, when she learns what you like, she will know your style and taste better than you know it yourself! She is always finding me such hidden gems I never would have stumbled on otherwise.

If you love it, buy it. Nothing haunts you like the pre-loved pieces you didn’t buy, isn’t that the saying? Unfortunately, that couldn’t be truer here. You will inevitably learn the hard way that most great pieces don’t stick around for long – so run, don’t walk!

Don’t be afraid to make offers. A lot of the time people are doing a closet clear-out and are just excited to sell some pieces and make some space (probably for new Vinted pieces!). More often than not, if you make a reasonable offer, between 10-30% off the asking price, it will be accepted!

Tips and tricks for selling

Don’t overprice things. The Vinted pros are used to treasure hunting and will find gems for literal pennies! If you overprice your items, you’re at the risk of missing out on that sale. Price things on the lower side, with a view to selling more pieces and making more overall! It really is the most satisfying feeling ever going to the post office with a pile of parcels.

Once you start selling pieces and making some money on Vinted, keep your earnings in your Vinted balance to use for future purchases. I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to use the money you’ve earned to buy new clothes. That basically makes them free according to girl math last time I checked.

Give as much information as possible whilst uploading your pieces, to avoid back-and-forth chat with sellers. Bonus points for taking photos of the piece on you, and for measuring the length and width of items! This is a trek I know, but be prepared for people to ask. That is really the gold standard.

How to search

By brand. If there is a particular brand that you love or a new brand you want to discover, you can search whole collections of items by the brand. Some of my favourite brands to search for are Miu Miu, D&G, Miss Sixty, Jean Paul Gaultier, Blumarine, Adidas, Lacoste and Chanel.

By style. If you are looking for something that is currently trending or a particular style of clothing, you can search this too! For example, if you are looking for capri pants, pointed-toe boot heels, striped polo shirts or sheer knit pieces, you should get great results by typing these adjectives. People are pretty descriptive!

Use filters. Even once you search for exactly what you are looking for, you will probably be met with tonnes of options so make sure to master the filter options to be as efficient as possible. Make sure to select the correct category, the sizes you wear, the colours you like and the price you’re happy to pay, this way you’ll get rid of the ‘no’ pile immediately.

My current wishlist

I could not be happier that Vinted in Ireland is connected directly with France. It makes it super easy for me to share my current wishlist with you, which I’ve narrowed down below (I’ll be racing you to the checkout for these!). I am seriously overdue for a closet cleanse, so once I upload the pieces that need new homes, you will be able to shop my pre-loved wardrobe too.
