The Christmas party edit: What to wear this festive season

The Christmas party edit: What to wear this festive season

From festive red to sequins and velvet, we've got all your Christmas party outfit inspiration right here.

Sequins

Sequins and Christmas have become so intertwined that it’s near impossible to get through the festive season without a bit of sparkle. But why not embrace it?! An easy way to make a statement, you can go as subtle or as bold as you like though it’s probably best to keep accessories to a minimum – you want your outfit to do the talking, after all.

Velvet

Velvet equals luxe to me, especially this time of year when shades of forest green, blood red and deep navy come into play. A beaded jacket will see you through many a festive soirée and is a great way to incorporate more seasonal pieces into your wardrobe. However, if you’re on the hunt for a real showstopper, this black jumpsuit from Nadine Merabi has my vote.

Red

Thankfully, red isn’t just for Christmas, though it does really come into its own this time of year. For those of you who tend to favour all-black, a pop of colour can really elevate a festive outfit and pairs incredibly well with a coordinating lipstick. Straying from monochrome might sound intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be and there are pieces to suit every style and aesthetic. From soft-as-butter cashmere cardigans to lacy camisoles, these are items you’ll wear time and again so definitely a smart purchase.

Silver & gold

If you picked up a pair of silver trousers last year, December is the perfect time to root them out and style them up for your Christmas party. Anything shimmery definitely passes as festive in my opinion… shiny is good, remember!? The Kindred coat looks good no matter what you style it with or ease yourself in with a particularly glitzy handbag or pair of earrings – these floral ones from Oliver Bonas remind me of wrapping paper (complimentary).

Bows

Bows came back into style last year thanks to the rise of the coquette aesthetic and I, for one, am thrilled that their popularity has endured. Simone Rocha showed that they can be worn however you want – in your hair, on your ears… under your eyes if you so please. Santa, if you’re listening, those Sister Jane trousers are top of my wishlist.
