Real Weddings: Lauren and David’s romantic Clonwilliam House wedding in Wicklow

by Shayna Sappington
31st Mar 2024

After saying 'I do' in a lovely church ceremony, Lauren and David had a sunny September reception in the picturesque, and exclusive, Clonwilliam House.

THE COUPLE
Lauren and David.

THEY LIVE
in Dublin.

THE VENUE
St Mary & St Michael Church, Rathdrum for the ceremony and Clonwilliam House, Co. Wicklow for the reception.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Catherine O’Hara Photography. She was a dream to work with, stepping in at the last minute after our original photographer cancelled two days before the wedding.

THEY MET
We both studied in Shannon College of Hotel Management but our paths did not cross until we both ended up working in The Shelbourne Hotel together.

THE PROPOSAL
David proposed during lockdown while on a staycation in Co Kerry. We were running around Caragh Lake when David got down on one knee.

THE WEDDING ATTIRE
My wedding dress was a princess-style, mikado silk Pronovias. I purchased it second-hand three weeks before the wedding due to a disaster with the original dress.

David had a classic black three-piece tux from Remus Uomo.

THE CEREMONY
We wanted something timeless and elegant but we were also pretty laid-back about the whole thing. The most important element was that we got to have all our nearest and dearest together. We wanted the reception to be personal and special, so we were sure to include personal touches such as driving to the church in my late grandfather’s vintage Rolls-Royce, our incredible bridal party, and having my great-grandmother’s gold wedding band remodelled into wedding bands for both of us.

THE RECEPTION
From the moment we met Miriam and the team in Clonwilliam House, we were sold. We knew it was the perfect venue. Naomi’s Kitchen did the food and it was exceptional! We did not offer a choice of main course and served fillet steaks.

THE ENTERTAINMENT
Our ceremony singer cancelled, and she sent an alternative guitarist who did not get the memo to play What A Wonderful World – the song I was due to walk down the aisle to, so poor David was left waiting a couple of minutes before Dad and I decided to go ahead without the song.

We had The Playlist as our band and DJ and they were superb!

THE DECOR
We went for a classic elegant style theme, with pale pink hues and cream roses.

THEIR TOP TIPS
You can’t plan for everything; something will inevitably go wrong but just roll with it and remember why you are getting married.

THEY WISH THEY HAD
I wish I had purchased a second dress to change into for dancing. As it happened, I had a cream-red Valentino dress that I had with me that came in very useful but this was not planned.

THEIR BEST MOMENTS
We loved every part but it was great to have some time just the two of us after the drinks reception.
