Dressing gown, house coat, bathrobe; whatever you call it, having one is essential for these cold winter mornings.

Dressing gowns are an Irish wardrobe essential – we may dispute what to call them, but at least we can all agree on that. Everyone has one and if you don’t, it’s probably because your last one is too threadbare to serve its purpose.

Available in many different styles, lengths and materials, there are dressing gowns to suit just about every type of person and occasion; that’s the beauty of them.  Our preferred lounge-around-the-house attire, we wear ours to do everything from popping out the bins of a Monday morning, to greeting the postman as he drops in yet another delivery.

Some people prefer linen. Others silk. Then there are the eternally cold creatures like me who always opt for whatever looks warmest. Though not usually the most fashionable choice, comfort and warmth rank above all else when it comes to choosing a dressing gown for me personally.

So, whether you’re in the market for a new one yourself or plan on picking one up as a gift for someone else ahead of the holidays, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites below.
