Oversize straw accessories are in — these nine pieces will make you want to book a holiday

When it comes to your summer accessories, it’s go big or go home this season.

The love affair with kooky ‘homemade’ (…though let’s be real, clearly store bought…) accessories like whicker bags, picnic baskets and macrame totes has been apparent for more than a minute now. It’s easy to blame the French girl aesthetic that dominated Instagram in summers past, but there’s also a tinge of romanticism associated with packing your bits and bobs into a nonchalant straw bag and heading off for the day. Even if your destination is O’Connell Street and not la Campagne.

For SS19, designers played up the novelty factor and offered colossal versions of raffia bags and straw hats — some so large that they almost seemed to swallow the models who wore them.

I mean, when every other influencer on your feed is rocking a so-called vintage basket, how do you compete? Take a leaf out of the Jacquemus or Valentino playbook and supersize your beach-ready pieces.
