Irish Designer Natalie B Coleman’s Life In Denim

Last?week at IMAGE.ie, we were fully focused on denim for IMAGE Denim Week, that wardrobe stalwart we?can’t live without. We gave you the low-down on how to style your denim this season,?our Denim Muses,‘discussed the most on-trend denim looks of the season, showed you how to customise your own denim?and so much more.

IMAGE Fashion Director Marie Kelly describes denim as “a window into your soul’, saying, “If I was to write my memoirs, the denims I wore in my teens, twenties and beyond would be as strong a signal of my personal and sartorial growth as any set of photographs – memories are woven into every seam and rivet.”

From the May issue of IMAGE magazine, on shelves nationwide now, Irish designer Natalie B Coleman shares her life in denim.

NATALIE B COLEMAN?S

Life In Denim

THE FIRST PAIR OF JEANS I BOUGHT

with my own money was a pair of Calvin Kleins – I was really taken with the advertising in the 1990s!

MY BIGGEST DENIM SPLURGE

was a pair of J Brand jeans for €250. They were a bad buy, as they stretched like crazy and lost all shape.

MY GO-TO STYLE

is vintage. I love when jeans have been worn so much they feel like velvet. I’ve also had a deep love of black skinny jeans since I was a teenager.

MY FAVOURITE DENIM LABELS

are Hiut Denim and Tender Co. I am about to buy a pair of Hiut Girlfriend slim-fit jeans online, as I really believe in the philosophy behind the brand.

MY DENIM ICON

is Marilyn Monroe in The Misfits.

MY MOST MEMORABLE DENIM MOMENT

was wearing a 1980s-style denim jacket with huge shoulders that I bought in a thrift store in New York. It had loads of diamante’s in the shape of china dogs plastered all over it. I wish I could find it now, as I think I’m just about ready to own this look!

I LOVE TO STYLE HIGH-WAISTED JEANS

with my ?All The Jewellery I Never Got? white sweater.

THE OLDEST PAIR OF JEANS I STILL HAVE

are a random pair my aunt gave me when I was 14. Sometimes they fit, most of the time they don’t, but I can’t let them go.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PAIRS OF JEANS

is a pair a stylist friend of mine gave me from the Rihanna ?I Found Love in a Hopeless Place? video. They’re ripped-up Levi’s that I wear to death.
