We’re still gleefully rejoicing at our incredible Irish talent’s nine Oscar nominations; if ever there was a year to tune into the lavish, though admittedly dull, Academy Award ceremony, 2016 is that year. Asides from anticipating the winners on the night, we’re already thinking about the red carpet. What will Saoirse Ronan wear as she sits among the talented females in the Best Actress category? Her flowing, ethereal YSL gown was a hit at the recent Golden Globes, however,?we’re secretly hoping she opts for a bit more colour for the main event.

ICYMI: The 2016 Oscar Nominations: Irish Talent For The Win

If worn right, an Oscar dress can go down in fashion history – and there have been some gorgeous gowns over the years. Remember Hilary Swank’s amazing backless Calvin Klein dress in 2005? Or JLO’s mint-green Valentino in 2004? Penelope Cruz’s 2007 ensemble still rocks almost every best-dressed list as does Halle Berry’s exquisite Elie Saab gown, worn in €2002 when she took home the Oscar for her performance?in Monster’s Ball. And remember last year when Emma Stone stunned (also in Elie Saab)? Either way, we’ve chosen a number of fabulous Oscar dresses that have wowed us through the last few years – and you can view them in our gallery above.

This should keep you salivated until this year’s red carpet rolls around on February 28th.
