Coats To Inspire You This Season

Coats To Inspire You This Season

No matter how many coats you have in your wardrobe, it’s difficult not to invest in another when the new-season collections drop. I’ve built up a capsule collection of classic coats – a grey straight-cut masculine coat, a navy double-breasted military-style jacket, an elegant oversized cape, a black fitted leather biker jacket, and a teal single-breasted coat for when I need a pop of colour.

So for AW16, I’m searching for something a little different – a vibrant print maybe, an interesting texture (velvet perhaps?) or a striking silhouette. Here are some inspiring coats from the style setters on the streets of New York.

I adore the earthy maise colour of this stunning?coat, and it’s been styled beautifully with rich burgundy and bold blue. The pink boots add a quirky touch, but this fabulous coat, with its textured trim, would look equally good worn over black or navy.

Shades of blue can balance out the impact of a very vibrant print, as aqua hues?have a more calming effect on the eye than fuchsias or’reds, for instance. Also, they work well with denim, giving the overall?look a more casual feel.

The simple colour-block trims on this coat have real impact. I also love the textured fabric.?This coat can easily be belted to create an alternative look and a fresh silhouette.

If you want a statement coat, this is the one. A double tiered cape in blue with a statement bird print will definitely get you noticed. What I love most is the striking silhouette, which would look?equally’strong in black or grey. It creates just the right kind of theatre for AW16.
