Where art and fashion collide: listen to Smart Casual live at IMMA

Smart Casual is IMAGE’s first fashion podcast, in collaboration with Kildare Village. In our bi-weekly chats, we examine why we wear the clothes we do and deal with personal style in a way that speaks to you

In the dramatic and inspiring surroundings of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham’s Royal Hospital, guests gathered for a special live episode of Smart Casual.

In honour of IMMA’s latest exhibition – Desire: A Revision from the 20th Century to the Digital Age, a collaboration with Kildare Village – IMAGE Fashion Director and Smart Casual co-host Marie Kelly introduced Head Curator Rachel Thomas to the stage.

The pair kicked off with the process of how an exhibition comes together to be seen by the public, and what the subject of desire means to Rachel herself. As they moved into fashion, Marie and Rachel discussed how art and fashion collide, and the eternal debate of whether fashion can be seen and appreciated as an art form.

Their chat finished off with a discussion of favourite artists, designers and the pair’s mutual love of Irish design.

Episode 27 of Smart Casual, in collaboration with Kildare Village, is available now on SoundCloud and iTunes – make sure to like, subscribe and rate us wherever you enjoy your podcasts. Smart Casual is hosted by Marie Kelly, Édaein O’Connell and Sarah Rickard and produced by Erin Lindsay. If you can’t wait to download, have a listen to the new episode below:
