Summer fashion is always a fab time for experimenting with splashes of colour, braving bold prints and exploring unusual cuts and shapes.
Every season has its micro-trends – those patterns and hues that can sometimes seem a shade too novelty to drop too much money on – and so we’ve tracked down some gorgeous high street options that’ll update the summer wardrobe without a major financial commitment.
Off-The-Shoulder
Lace is having a bit of a moment this Summer and we love this slightly lurid colour that injects a bit of edge to what can often be slightly traditional.

Statement Sleeves
Going big in the sleeves, means holding back in other areas and this blush dress from Zara has a nice balance of restraint meets experimental, the slightly athleisure look is nicely unfussy next to the flared sleeves.

Frill Seeker
Frills would ordinarily give me a bit of a ‘no’ vibe but this pink Mango dress has a slightly more sculptural take on the frill that feels less girly and more grown up.

Feisty Florals
If florals seem too feminine for you, go for a larger more graphic print to toughen them up – see also our fashion director, Marie Kelly’s top tips to edge up your floral pieces.

Gingham Gal
Gingham is everywhere this Summer and it’s begun to feel like if you can’t beat ’em, join em. This playful dress from Penneys actually ticks several micro-trends in one fell swoop: it’s got the ging-thing, statement sleeves, ruffles and embroidery.
