Dublin-based poet and stylist Jan Brierton shares her favourite things

Today is Work Poetry Day, and to celebrate we caught up with poet, stylist and podcaster Jan Brierton about her best buys and her latest poetry collection, 'Everybody is a Poem'.

The last thing I bought was a boilersuit to wear to a Róisín Murphy gig. I love jumpsuits and boilersuits but I went a bit extra for Róisín… this one has ombre sequins.

My most treasured expensive pieces are anything by Dries Van Noten. I always buy in the sale, which is still expensive, but I get great joy wearing them.

The most useful thing I want right now is a new bike. My friend Sophie gave me her old one, which has served me well, but I’d love a brightly coloured city bike with a basket.

The most useless thing I want is neon tulle opera gloves.

A book I keep coming back to is The Descent of Man by Grayson Perry. I love Perry’s art but I particularly love his observations on modern life, masculinity and class.

I find poetry inspiration in everyday life. It’s often a trip to the shops, a cup of tea with friends, something that the kids might say to me, or a bus journey that sparks an idea.

My favourite movie is Napoleon Dynamite.

The last thing I recommended to a friend was probably Sam Baker’s podcast, The Shift. I love the frank and honest female conversations.

The things I keep beside my bed are a photo of me and my friend Siobhan, a bottle of HRT pump gel and my reading glasses.

I never leave the house without my shoes. I’ve left without my keys, my phone, my glasses, my handbag, but I know for sure I’ll never leave without shoes!

My favourite accessory is gold hoop earrings. I like big hoops and I cannot lie.

The best purchase I ever made for the house was my Sage Smart Kettle. It’s the hardest working piece of equipment in my house as I drink tonnes of tea, day and night.

I am most looking forward to ageing and continuing to feel more comfortable and confident within myself.

My dream podcast guest would be Kathy Burke – funny, smart, curious and unapologetic.

Jan’s latest collection of poetry, Everybody is a Poem, €9.95, is out now.
