What’s All The Fuss About Double Cleansing?

What’s All The Fuss About Double Cleansing?

When it comes to our skin, we all have different needs. Some of us want to get rid of blemishes, target fine lines or just generally make sure our skin is healthy and in good condition. The first step to achieving any of these of course, is to make sure you have a top-notch skin cleansing routine, ensuring it’s as clean and clear as can be before you go to bed at night.

Cleansing, toning and moisturising is something that we always want to work into our beauty routines, but over the past number of weeks, we’ve heard a lot about double cleansing, and the positive effect this has on your skin.

There has been a lot of buzz around the method, and for good reason too. This writer has been trying it vigorously over the past few months, and though it means an extra step (and an extra few minutes) during my beauty routine, I found it has worked wonders for keeping my skin blemish free.

What Is Double Cleansing?

Double Cleansing is exactly as it sounds. It basically means cleansing the face twice before you tone and moisturise. The first cleanse usually involves using an oil to take off every bit of your make-up while the second cleanse involves using a product that will really clean and work on the skin. The process is done to ensure that your face is not only free from all traces of make-up but that your skin is actually being treated with your cleanser, rather than simply removing the excess make-up.

It’s not intended to strip anything away from your skin, mind, it’s really all about ensuring that your skin and pores are as free from dirt as possible, thus ensuring your skin stays in great condition.

And for those looking to incorporate double cleansing into their routine, here’s how to do it right:

  • Smooth an oil-based formula onto dry skin (we love Una Brennan’s Facial Oil for this), circling it over face and eyes for about a minute before removing it with a warm cloth.
  • Next, apply a cleanser that suits your complexion?a gel or foam is a good option (Liz Earle’s Hot Cloth Cleanser or Eve Loam’s Cleanser are perfect for this), but it can be your cleanser of choice.
  • Work it into your skin, and then rinse or wipe away for immaculate pores?and a perfectly clean canvas before bed.
  • Tone and Moisturise as usual.

The fuss behind this is well worth talking about as many a beauty expert has said they wouldn’t be without this in their skincare routine.

Do you double cleanse or would you try it?
