September’s best beauty launches: matte everything and colour chaos

Beauty writer HOLLY O’NEILL on what’s now, what’s next and what’s landing on the beauty desk this September.

LA INSPIRED
The & Other Stories Los Angeles atelier has created the brand’s first haircare range, with three targeted categories: Restore, Universal and Fullness. You’ll find everything you need for styling and cleansing, whether you’re looking for hair serum, a scalp scrub or volume like Kaia Gerber at Valentino Couture, above, created by Guido Palau.

MATTE OBSESSIONS

Chanel’s global head of make-up and colour design, Lucia Pica, is looking towards texture with the all-matte Apotheosis collection. “I like oppositions in make-up looks that represent the multiple aspects of a woman,” says Pica. “Matte applied to a glowy face creates a sense of depth.” There’s creamy matte lip crayons and velvety stains, rich matte eyeshadows and buttery eye pens, all in earthy, autumnal shades and Pica’s signature red. This collection might just be Lucia Pica’s apotheosis.

CALM AND CLARIFY
Irish skincare company Pestle & Mortar’s newest product, Balance, €32, is a facial spritz created with deep sea Irish magnesium and amino acids, offering hydration, balanced sebum production and reduced skin pollution. CEO and founder Sonia Deasy has created another hero.

FRESHLY FLORAL
Introducing Honeysuckle & Davana, Jo Malone London’s Cotswolds-inspired floral fragrance by master perfumer Anne Flipo. It’s prolonged summer in a bottle.

COLOUR CHAOS
Lancome and Proenza Schouler have joined forces for a limited edition collaboration that designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have described as “colour, in all its power and glory. We wanted strong shades and bold strokes.” Inspired by artists Ellsworth Kelly and Carmen Herrera, the result is a vivid collection of intense pigments. There’s a new burgundy Monsieur Big mascara; ochre, violet and citrus Matte Shakers; Kajals in eyeliner- and-eyeshadow duos; double-sided lip pencil-and-lipsticks; nail polish; highlighter; lipstick; and vibrant eyeshadow palettes – all with Warholian bright colour at the forefront.
