Self-care Diaries: Zoë Taylor, the make-up artist baking tarts with glowy skin

Self-care Diaries: Zoë Taylor, the make-up artist baking tarts with glowy skin

How Chanel ambassador and make-up artist  Zoë Taylor is spending this time in lockdown.

Self-care doesn’t mean you have to be a kundalini yogi, have mastered meditation or achieved nirvana. Even the most minute act done for yourself, from wearing bright lipstick to making yourself a cup of tea has the power to turn your whole day around. There is no right way to do it. So we’re asking women during this period of isolation to tell us about the joyful moments in their days, be it a beauty product or a Netflix series.

Today’s self-care diary comes from make-up artist Zoë Taylor, a London-based make-up artist with the ultimate French girl Jane Birkin hair.  Zoë has her own vegan lip care beauty brand Tinker Taylor, is a Chanel beauty ambassador, has partnered with the biggest names in beauty and fashion and worked on covers of every magazine from Vogue to GQ.

Here, she shares how she’s spending her lockdown.

Where are you self isolating at the moment?
At home in Brixton, London.

What is your daily routine consisting of while in quarantine?
Being woken up by my beautiful children, having breakfast with them and then home-school begins. It feels like time is standing still whilst I immerse myself in them and their lives and their passions, a true privilege to watch them learn and grow. After lunch, we do art projects and then late afternoon I start my own work, filming, writing, Zoom calls, interviews, and my own brand Tinker Taylor, handling the online sales and enquiries. I often find myself working until the early hours of the morning.

How are you dressing while working from home?
Same as when I am on set, little dresses and a red lip.

Are you working out or moving your body while at home?
I had great intentions of getting really fit during this time, I have ordered all the gear but let’s see what happens. We are going for family bike rides once a day, which is wonderfully chaotic with a two-year-old and a five-year-old.

What’s bringing you joy right now?
I am so enjoying trying out new skincare, normally I am quite good at sticking to what I know on myself and trying the new things on my models, but now I am trying out all the things I have had waiting on the shelf. Currently, I am obsessed with the Chanel Sublimage La Crème Lumiere, €360. I don’t know how I have lived for so long without this in my life. Also, the new Chanel Coco Flash Lipsticks, such gorgeous colours for spring. The shade “Feel” is the sort of colour which works for everyone.

What’s been your favourite thing to eat while stuck at home?
I am passionate about cooking, having spent a short but sweet time working in a kitchen before I was a make-up artist. And now I am doing a lot of shopping for people who are self-isolating. I feel so inspired by what they are ordering. I often get some for myself and it feels good to be cooking from scratch. This evening I cooked a delicious roasted squash and feta tart, lemon couscous with peas and mint, and zucchini fries — who knew they were so easy!

What beauty product are you enjoying using the most at this time?
My latest love is the new Chanel Baume Essentielle in Golden Light, €42, as it is so versatile. If I am not wearing base or a tint I will put this straight over my moisturiser, onto the high points of the face, for a gorgeous glow. ‘Golden Light’ is the perfect colour for this time of year. This baume is beautiful on all skin types and all foundation finishes and is totally foolproof.
