Unlike the shows they star in, too frequently the beauty looks on the Emmys red carpet can be on the dull side; they are tried and tested and, rather, grimly ‘age-appropriate,’ a term I have come to detest?as it’s frequently used to describe women over fifty in the industry. Beauty is for everyone. Regardless of age, you can make a particular look totally your own, be it with a new fringe and an incredible fuschia dress a la Jane Fonda, or subtle glowing skin like Michelle Pfeiffer, who at nearly 60 has clearly managed to defy time; she looks as beautiful now as she ever did.? Her makeup was natural as opposed to heavy-handed (even with the glittered eyeshadow) and the loose curls and nude lip perfectly complemented her dramatic black Gossamer’dress.

The always formidable Gillian Anderson channelled a Targaryen straight out of Game of Thrones with her gigantic braid, and natural and big hair reigned?with Jessica Biel and Uzo Aduba topping off their looks with tons of volume, while Zoe Kravitz?opted?to let her her inner Mia Farrow/Rosemary’s Baby’shine through with a cropped do.
