My day in beauty with Irish artist Audrey Hamilton

My day in beauty with Irish artist Audrey Hamilton

I first discovered Audrey Hamilton’s work when I was looking for a Panda-themed piece of Irish art for a gift for my best friend. Like with most people I meet, I immediately wanted to grill her on her beauty loves. I did, of course, and here they are.

“My day-to-day routine starts with splashing my face with freezing cold water. I then use a Clarins face wash with a face cloth,” says Audrey. “I don’t tend to wear much make-up on week days unless I have a meeting which is great for giving the skin and pores a break.”

Oil obsession

“I am obsessed with oil on my body, like obsessed. Sometimes if I run out of vitamin E oil or any “proper” face oil after having a shower, I’ll shout out to my fiancé “will you pour some olive oil into a bowl for me!?” and I’ll lather myself in olive oil,” she laughs.

“Vitamin E oil is actually something I always carry around with me and if I’m on the go, I’ll dab a little under my eyes and on my cheeks. It’s a great little highlighter and amazing for your skin, especially in the cold weather, and for wrinkles. I also love a good lip balm,” says Audrey.

Audrey’s Skin Picks:

Cleanser – Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanse Wash
Moisturiser – Pestle and Mortar
Serum – Pestle and Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum
Mask – I love the Charlotte Tilbury Clay Mask, your face literally feels like a baby’s bottom after.
Hand cream – Estée Lauder
Other – Vitamin E oil

Pestle and Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum, €42.95

The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-oil, €24.50

Audrey’s Make-up Picks:

Foundation – Charlotte Tilbury light wonder for day and Magic Foundation for night
Primer – Smashbox Photo Finish
Mascara – YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils, and Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes.
Liner – No 7 gel eyeliner; I use it for both flick and tear duct
Palette/eyeshadow – Smashbox Cover Shot eye palette
Powder – Collection Pressed Powder or Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish
Brushes – Real Techniques for blending, bronzing and highlight and Smashbox for foundation, concealer and contour.
Highlight – Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow and Chanel Universal Cream Bronzer

“YSL mascaras are honestly the best to get that long lash effect. I don’t like false eyelashes, they irritate me. I have naturally long lashes with blond tips so I love to lash on the mascara to get a full lash effect. I have tried some other good ones but I always come back to this one.”

YSL Effet Faux Cils Mascara, €32.50

“I never thought I’d like a cream bronzer but the Chanel product goes on like velvet. It is so smooth and even and smells like caramel!”

Chanel Soleil de Tan Bronzer, €40

Audrey’s Top Make-up Tip:

“ALWAYS BLEND. Such a pet peeve seeing a make-up line or a contour line that hasn’t been blended. Makes me want to take out my blending brush!”

Audrey’s Hair Picks:

Shampoo – Herbal Essence Hello and Hydrate with the coconut scent. Smells unreal! I guess I like smells a lot…
Conditioner – Herbal Essence Hello and Hydrate
Tools – Peter Marks ETI Turbo Stratos hairdryer

Peter Mark ETI Turbo Stratos 3800, €59.90

Audrey’s Top Hair Tip:

“Slather your hair in coconut oil every once in a while, leave overnight and shampoo twice the next day. It makes it lovely and soft and shiny.”
