Ask The Expert: Pamela Laird On How To Nail 2018’s Nail Trends

Nail artist Pamela Laird shares her tips on how to nail the trends from the SS18 catwalks.

“Brights are back with a bang when it comes to nails this SS18,” according to Pamela Laird. “Nudes are taking a back seat and instead we are seeing super bright shades like vibrant yellow and pastel green launching from Chanel in January 2018.”

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Giallo Napoli, €25

“Gloss is going to be huge for make-up and hair and this is true too for nails. Every shade bright or dark is going to have a super high shine finish – try Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat.”

“When it comes to nail art, geometric lines and stripes are the way to nail the trend – we’ve seen single black lines painted over a pastel shade on just one nail at the Phillip Lim show. Diagonal lines are super easy to achieve at home too, I like to use scotch tape to make sure my lines are even and straight. Just apply these to the desired shape, paint then peel off and presto you have a perfect line!”

“Shapes are very much paired back and opting for a more natural look. Try rounding off the edges of your nails to a more ‘squoval’ shape- not round and not square.”

Essie All in One Base Coat, €10.99

“Red nails are going to hang around after the Christmas season but try the burnt orange shades, with pops of coral coming through. Don’t forget to use a base coat underneath to protect the nail – I like Essie All in One.

Shimmer is the new take on glitter and is so wearable – think iridescent glow and try Luna Pearl from the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range, it’s the perfect opalescent shade.”
