Being mum to a toddler and having busy days on the events team at IMAGE, Jennifer finds wellness through making space for herself, from gym sessions to yoga and Reiki – or sometimes just finding one tiny thing that allows her to slow down.

I’ve got a very active two-and-a-half year old, Harry, who sometimes ends up in my bed at 3am, and a fast-paced job on the events team at IMAGE that keeps me constantly on my toes. But amidst the chaos, I’ve found something that’s become my anchor: my 6am gym sessions, four mornings a week. That one hour, when the house is quiet and the world hasn’t woken up yet, is sacred. It’s not just about fitness – it’s about headspace. It’s the only consistent time in my day that’s entirely mine. No toddler on my hip, no emails. Just me, some weights, a bit of music, and a reminder that I still exist outside of the roles I play.

I started working with Jonathan from J Clarke Fitness in January, and honestly, it’s been such a gamer changer. I didn’t realise how much my energy, mood, and even my confidence were being impacted by how I was fuelling my body. I wasn’t eating terribly, but I wasn’t eating intentionally either. Jonathan helped me get clear on what my body actually needs to thrive, not just survive. And the best part is that it’s not restrictive. I still get to enjoy my Chinese takeaway and a glass of wine at the weekend, completely guilt-free. Because these are essential for my happiness too!

I’m also studying to become a yoga teacher with the amazing Babs from Yoga Boann. A decision that felt like a stretch (excuse the pun) but has become one of the most important parts of my growth. Yoga is teaching me something I never prioritised: presence. The ability to slow down, breathe, and be in the moment. I’ve always been someone who’s on the go, thinking about tomorrow before today’s even finished! But I’m starting to understand that life isn’t about how much we get done. It’s about how present we are while we’re doing it.

I’ve also fallen in love with simple, soul-soothing things like a hot box sauna session or a good walk – especially in the Phoenix Park or by the sea. There’s just something about being out in the fresh air that instantly re-centres me. It’s like a reset button. Whether it’s the heat of the sauna or the calm of the ocean, these little rituals bring me back to myself. They’re small but powerful parts of my happiness and wellness routine.

That said, I don’t have it all figured out. There are mornings I snooze my alarm, days I miss a workout, times I get overwhelmed and reach for the chocolate instead of my yoga mat. But I’ve learned that showing up imperfectly still counts. In fact, that’s often where the magic is. For me, it is not about being perfect – it’s about being consistent.

Beyond the physical side of wellness, I’ve also leaned deeply into my spiritual practices. I’ve been doing Reiki once a month for years, and it’s one of the things that truly keeps me grounded. It helps me protect my energy, stay aligned with my intentions, and come back to a sense of peace when life feels too loud! I genuinely believe that keeping your vibration high allows you to attract the kind of life you want.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support system I’m lucky to have around me. From my family and friends to Harry’s wonderful Dad and childcare – I couldn’t show up for myself the way I do without their help. Whether it’s a last-minute favour, a listening ear, or just someone reminding me to slow down, their presence makes all of this possible. Wellness might look individual from the outside, but for me, it’s deeply collective.

I am very grateful for this routine I have created for myself. I don’t show up for myself 100% of the time, but when I fall off track or life takes me off course, I have my blueprint of what to come back to to make me feel happy again – and we all have the ability to create and find our own blueprint.

If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be this: don’t try to do everything at once. You don’t need a perfect routine to start feeling better. Just pick one small thing that feels good and manageable, something that actually fits into your life right now. It could be going outside for some fresh air, stretching for five minutes before bed, or drinking more water. Whatever it is, let it be simple and kind. The goal isn’t to be perfect, it’s to keep showing up for yourself, bit by bit, in ways that feel good for you!
