From running and weight training to spicy margs with friends, balance is key to IMAGE’s Dearbhla Lovett’s wellness routine. Here, she shares what gives her not just a physical boost, but mental clarity too.

When it comes to my wellness routines, they can sometimes sound a bit preachy. And yes, this might make some people roll their eyes, but I genuinely love working out. I know, I know, don’t hate me. I count myself lucky to be one of those people who actually enjoy going for a run or completing a gym session, not just for the physical boost, but for the mental clarity it brings too.

For me, wellness is all about balance. There is a fine line between discipline and fun, real life and routine. It’s not all about protein shakes and gym sessions, spending time with friends, enjoying great food, showing up for workouts (even on the days you’d rather not) and indulging in the occasional spicy margarita are all just as important.

When I first moved to Dublin, Cloud Pilates quickly became my go-to. I was nervous about putting myself out there and meeting new people, but the community vibe at Cloud made it so much easier. Ali Hayes’ Pilates & Lattes – where you come for the pilates and stay for the coffee and chats – has introduced me to so many amazing people in Dublin and beyond. I can’t wait to join the rooftop sessions around the city this summer!

My regular gym routine usually revolves around strength training and weight lifting – I love how empowered and strong it makes me feel, both physically and mentally. But I’m also a bit obsessed with trying out new gym classes across Ireland. There’s so much variety out there, and I adore discovering different studios and switching things up.

Then there’s running, which is something I do mostly for the fun of it. It’s my go-to cardio and a way to completely clear my head. I believe in no pressure or pace and distance goals – just get out there.

Wellness, for me, isn’t just about workouts. Socialising with friends and going home to my two gorgeous dogs and taking them for a walk in the Cavan countryside is just as crucial. I never bring headphones on those walks – there’s something so grounding about hearing the wind in the trees, birdsong, and just letting my mind wander.

Honestly, some of my best ideas for work or content come to me on those quiet strolls. I feel really lucky to have that contrast in my life: the buzz of the city and the calm of the countryside.

I don’t have a perfect routine – I’m not up meditating at dawn or sipping celery juice like clockwork. I definitely spend too much time on my phone. However, I’ve found a mix of movement, connection and creativity that makes me feel genuinely content. And to me, that’s what wellness is really about.
